Ojai Valley Community Church is a community that believes faith is a journey of “loving God and loving others.” The journey isn’t centered around a building or a series of programs, rather we see “church” as an opportunity to connect with others on the same path. Join us Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights, or during special events throughout the year.
The Sunday morning atmosphere around Ojai Valley Community Church is friendly and informal. Find a comfortable sofa in the Sanctuary, relax with your loved ones, and kick up your feet. This is Community!
The morning begins with fellowship and music. Our musicians strive to play with excellence and bring wonderful music sets to Sunday mornings with songs from the likes of U2, the Beatles, Leonard Cohen and Marvin Gaye, just to name a few. Because at Community, good music is holy music!
Fellowship and music are followed by Pastor Paul’s teachings from the Bible which are always thought-provoking and enlightening. Sometimes there are also special ceremonies such as child dedications and adult baptisms. On the first Sunday of the month, Pastor Paul gathers the Community’s kids around to tell a children’s story and hand out fun gifts that relate to the story. Communion is also taken on the first Sunday of every month, followed by a community potluck.
Coming this fall: A variety of Spiritual Practices for your pleasure. Midrash – a wide open spiritual discussion, Lectio Divina-a sacred reading, Labyrinth Prayer walk, Contemplative Prayer, and Taize Service. Contemplative practices turn the focus inward, using disciplines that train our hearts and minds to quiet down and listen. Father Thomas Keating describes Centering Prayer as “taking a vacation from oneself”, allowing the racing thoughts to pass on by and locating that still small point inside where God speaks and we can finally hear. Kristi Walsh will be co-teaching with Pastor Paul during a seven week series. Wednesdays, October 15 – November 16, 2016 at 7 p.m.
There are many other special events at Ojai Valley Community Church, such as our monthly Community Potluck which is held after service on the first Sunday of each month. Bring something to share or just bring yourself, there’s always plenty! And during the summer, every Sunday afternoon is Bates Beach Sunday. Enjoy a fun-filled afternoon on the beach with the tribe!
Christian holidays are celebrated in special ways. Christmas is celebrated with Advent and a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service. Easter is celebrated throughout Lent, ending with a contemplative Good Friday Labyrinth, and an annual Easter Sunrise Service held at Lake Casitas in Ojai.
Community Kids provides a safe and nurturing environment for your children while you attend Sunday Service and during children’s events such as Kid’s Night Out and trips to fun places like Farmer’s Market and the Ojai Raptor Center. Kids grow up here knowing they are loved and cherished. Contact Keri for more info.
Filled with laughter, friends, and fun, Sunday nights are an exciting time for everyone. Students are given a chance to hang out and be themselves, learn about Christ, and just figure things out.
Life Design women have been meeting for many years to study, connect, and invest in one another’s lives. Gathering on Wednesday mornings from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., expect food, laughter, new friendships, insights and companions on this journey we call life. We usually organize our time around reading a book, but anyone can drop in any time. We’ve discovered a beautiful monastery in Valyermo where we are trying to retreat at least once a year. Our next retreat is scheduled for end of April 2015. Contact Cindy Wachter for more information.
Two or More is a small women’s service and fellowship group which meets monthly to do good works for the Community. We gather on the first Wednesday of each month in rotating homes. Contact Lori Karns to get involved.
Serving others is not just about church, it’s about serving others as a lifestyle… at our church, in our community and around the world.
Thank you Community for the volunteers who continue to build Homes of Hope for families in need, and proving again and again that LOVE WINS.
We are also available to help each other at Community. If you need a hand or would like to help provide someone with assistance, please sign up for Community Care.
Sometimes all that’s needed are some Inspirational Bible passages. You can find a collection of Inspirational Bible Verses and Quotes right here.
Our objective is to let our community know that we at Ojai Valley Community Church love them and we care!
